Chapter Ten:
Our little party lasted quite awhile in those early morning hours of the new day, until we finally fell into an exhausted pile of limbs and slept the sleep of the dead.
I woke with a start, remembering nothing, then slowly letting a smile cross my face as I realized the sweat and come I felt dried on me was real and not just another of my many fantasies. Roy was not in the bed, so I lay there letting the rest of the memories of the night before come crashing in like a wave. What an amazing time we had had. Of course, we had been exhausted but that didn’t stop us from going two rounds.
Getting up carefully, I went into the kitchen, found a clean set of my own clothing on the counter, down to shoes, socks and underwear, so I slipped into them after another quick shower. It was after eleven, and while I was physically exhausted, I was mentally whirling and didn’t need any more caffeine to get me going.
As soon as I opened the door, I heard the sound of work being done at the pool. Since I hadn’t been forced awake by a cop, I figured things were going okay and I moved carefully to the house. Letting myself in through a side door, I called on my long ago acting ability and by the time I got to the kitchen you would have thought Camille herself was in the house.
“Oh Lupe, I feel awful,” I moaned as nasally as I could, flinging myself onto one of the high bar stools, “be a doll and get me some orange juice, please.”
Looking at me with suspicion, Lupe got a glass and went to the refrigerator.
“What’s wrong?” she asked quietly while pouring.
“Oh, it’s a cold or something; I’m still exhausted,” I managed while grabbing the glass she slid across the counter to me.
“You do look pale.” Lupe was no fool.
“And I just feel terrible,” I moaned. “What’s going on around here?” I asked casually.
“Roy is working with the new pool men, RJ had lunch and is reading his script but he’s very tired today. I hope it’s not the drugs again,” she said sotto voice.
“Let’s keep an eye out. I’m going to check with Roy to see if they are on schedule, and then I think I’ll lie back down,” I said casually. I did need to see if the pool was on schedule, as Roy was leaving soon with RJ to begin filming, but more importantly, I just wanted to see Roy.
The pool area was a churning sea of workmen, sexy construction guys who normally would have gotten my engine revved, but I only had eyes for one. Roy was standing not far from the stack of rebar that only hours ago we had used as a slide to ease the freezer into the hole we had dug. The lengths were being jockeyed through benders and cut saws this morning and lowered into the gaping hole.
